The John R. and Elizabeth L. White Chapel, 2001
White Chapel Rose-Hulman Institute Road, Terre Haute, IN 47803
Architect/Designer: VOA Associates, Lead designer William Ketcham
DESCRIPTION:
White Chapel is a wedge shaped structure made of glass and steel. The structure features diamond-shaped, stainless steel panels that clad the exterior of the building. The steel walls are split by a series of vertical ribbon windows and a continuous skylight along the top of the structure. The entire east end of the chapel is made of glass creating an impressive backdrop and view of the waterfront. An outdoor garden terrace creates a forecourt to the chapel. A waterfall and water channel along the southern entrance creates an elegant entrance on to the chapel property. A quiet place of reflection and worship, the White Chapel is a stunning example of architecture and natural elements working in tandem.
