Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Campus Center, 2007
420 University Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46202
Architect: SmithGroup
DESCRIPTION:
The IUPUI Campus Center’s design is a series of rectilinear planes that work in tandem to create a massive structure. The main façade is a four story glass curtain wall. A three story glass cube projects forward from the main façade at the north east corner which houses the book store. Along the south east corner is a concrete and steel tower, an abstracted representation of a collegiate clock tower. Cutting across the tower is a steel sun screen that extends into the roofline of the main façade. The Campus Center is a beautiful nod to midcentury design while still creating an exciting and contemporary space for IUPUI students.
